I noticed when I signed up for My Space that I already had a friend. I guess this friend is an asssistant for new users to help people get started with My Space. What does everyone think of this feature?
I also noticed that the service has a journal feature that people on Tribe.net have been asking for. I know that the tribenet tribe has discussed the addition of a blog/journal feature.
I really like the Friendster Gallery feature and it looks like My Space has a Browse Users feature that is similar but tribe.net doesn't have this feature. I wish they would add it though.
Finally, I think using an email address as a key for login is easier for people that have a lot of user names to remember when logging in. Most people can remember their email address but user names can be more difficult to remember because of the varying size of user name database fields, and the fact that someone might already have taken the name that a person wants to use.
With my one friend, I have 125+K people in my network. All of those connections come from my assistant though. This is an interesting approach for sure.

Re: My space moderator, etc...
Fri, October 10, 2003 - 10:57 AMI think Tom is everybody's friend, so that new users don't feel so absolutely alone... you're also connected to a lot of people that you can check out, or that can check you out. The features you mention are good. If I had one wish, it would be a "who's online now" feature, combined with a kind of IM thingie. .. -

Thu, October 23, 2003 - 1:08 PMTribe has the better search feature and categorized groups. MySpace has journals. Whichever is the first to get both features will be the one that wins my loyalty.
